Just when you thought Poke-Mania couldn’t get any stranger. Namco and Nintendo have just announced a new, strange venture called Pokken Tournament. That’s right, it’s a Pokemon fighting game starring your favorite pocket monsters; developed by Namco/Bandai’s Tekken team.
While Nintendo had been teasing a “shocking” new Pokemon announcement for August 26, 2014, this takes a whole different cake. Pokemon fighting!? It’s not an RPG or an adventure game. It’s a hand-to-hand, knock-down, drag-out slug fest between Nintendo’s colorful staff of adorable monsters. Head producers from Soul Calibur and Tekken are working on this title, and because of the announcement being so fresh it may be a while before we get some real news. I’m just going to need to see this guy:
Nintendo and Namco/Bandai have been working on some interesting projects together over the past few years. 2014’s Super Smash Bros (WiiU/3DS) was developed by key members of Namco/Bandai’s teams and with Pokken Tournament, does that mean we’ll see more from these two in the future? I surely hope so! just as long as we get more Tales games on WiiU and they stay away from that Mario Kart Arcade nonsense. As of right now it looks like Pokken Tournament is only set for Japanese arcades for 2015, but I’m thinking this game has GOT to come to home consoles and to the west.
