Ok everyone, as you know the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer just hit the web this evening. I’m both terrified and ecstatic about the release of this film. Over the past six years Marvel has released hit after hit, building an incredible connected universe between it’s films and television shows. As Marvel’s phase 2 finally culminates in Avengers: Age of Ultron it looks as though our heroes are in the thick of it.
A2 is looking to be, as director Joss Whedon promised, more personal. The trailer is dripping with personal reflection, internal anxiety, and dread. It looks as though heroes will turn against one another as Ultron corrupts virtually everything. James Spader’s Ultron is a giant mound of nightmare fuel with his logic-based disdain for heroes and humans. His lines hang on the air heavy with ominous intent. The events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier have clearly ushered in an age of darker action and bleaker stories. Check out the trailer.
Yes, that’s “I’ve Got No Strings” from Pinocchio. Thus turning Tony Stark into a more tragic version of Geppetto as his Pinocchio has come to kill him. Ultron has broken free of his strings and I haven’t been this irked by a trailer in a long time. I’m not sure if Graves will agree with me, but this may be the most frightening trailer I’ve seen this year. Hats off to Marvel for using their properties so well. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver also get some nice action, and I think that Elizabeth Olsen’s Witch may run away with quite the performance.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015 and cannot come soon enough. Try listening to this song without getting creeped out.
Yeah, Ultron quotes Pinocchio and I’ve never been more scared.
